05 Buying and selling · Lesson 05

Selling

Selling is the same form with the sign flipped. What really changes is the meaning of each field — and where you check the result.

By the end of this lesson

You will sell part of what you bought and read the result in the history.

The button changes colour, the balance changes coin

On the buy side, available is counted in the coin you pay with. On the sell side it becomes the coin you have to sell. It is the same line saying something else — and it is the detail that makes beginners type the wrong number.

On the sell side the button turns red and the available balance is counted in the coin, not in dollars.

What flips

Three behaviours, inverted

Market sells at whatever price exists at that instant. If the book is thin you walk down the steps and the average price comes out worse than the screen's.

Limit waits for your price. It may never fill — and stay open, holding your balance reserved.

Partial fills are normal: part sold, the rest is still open. The order did not vanish; it is in Open Orders, waiting.

Where to check

The chart is the market; the history is you

After selling, the answer is not on the chart. It is in Order History (what you sent) and Trade History (what actually filled, and at what average price).

Keep the habit of reading both. The gap between the price you asked for and the average price you got is the only honest measure of what haste cost.

The three tabs at the bottom. The first is what is still waiting; the other two are what already happened.

The end of the path

Selling is not withdrawing

Selling returns the value as a stable coin or as cash inside the exchange. Getting out is the next step, and it closes the test from lesson 01: request the withdrawal, watch the money land, and only then do you know the whole path works on this account.

It is also where unfinished verification shows up — always at the worst moment.

What goes wrong here

Selling “everything” and hitting the minimum. Very small leftovers cannot form a valid order and just sit there.

Assuming the order failed. Before repeating it, look at Open Orders: sending again can sell twice.

Confusing the screen price with the filled price. What counts is the average price in Trade History.

Before lesson 06
  • I sold part of the position and found the fill in the history.
  • I compared the price I asked for with the average price I got.
  • I made a test withdrawal and the money arrived.
When you get stuck

Every screen on the exchange has Customer Support in the footer, and the Help Centre has self-service for the three things that most often get stuck: resetting the password, finishing verification and re-doing the two-step app. If none of that solves it, the written channel is cs@bydfi.com. Do not guess: a ticket costs ten minutes, a guess can cost the account.
